Electric vehicles are a category of vehicles that includes electric cars and all types of hybrid cars that combine an electric motor with a combustion engine. All-electric vehicles are electrified, but not all-electric vehicles are fully electric.
Electric vehicles basically include hybrids, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and fully electric vehicles (EVs).
Hybrid vehicles are equipped with a conventional internal combustion engine, usually running on petrol and one or more electric engines that support the internal combustion engine while reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) are similar to hybrid vehicles but have larger batteries that can be recharged by plugging into an external power outlet.
Fully electric vehicles (EVs) are powered solely by an electric engine and a battery. They do not have an internal combustion engine and therefore do not emit CO2 during use. The energy needed to power the electric motor is stored in a battery that can be recharged by connecting the vehicle to an external power outlet or using public, private or mobile charging stations.
