Battery swap

Battery swap

« Back to Glossary Index

The battery swap is a battery replacement process used for electric vehicles. Instead of recharging the battery inside the vehicle, it is removed and replaced with a fully charged battery. This process drastically reduces the time needed to recharge the batteries.
The battery swap procedure may vary depending on the system adopted by the vehicle manufacturer or the company operating the battery swap service. Sometimes, the vehicle driver goes to a specific service station or swap point, where the empty battery pack is removed and a new fully charged one is installed. Other times, however, the entire vehicle is driven over an automated platform that removes the discharged battery and replaces it with a charged battery.
The main objective of battery swap is to reduce the waiting time for recharging batteries, allowing drivers to get back on the road faster. This could be particularly useful for commercial vehicles or those used for long journeys, where traditional charging might take too long
