TMS: cold and batteries

« Back to Glossary Index

Thermal Management System (TMS) is a system that cools or heats the batteries of electric vehicles depending on atmospheric and operating conditions, in order to maintain an optimal temperature range for operation.
The TMS is part of the larger battery management system called BMS (Battery Management System), which is responsible for controlling battery parameters (charge, voltage, temperature, etc.).
The TMS is a crucial component in ensuring the functionality and durability of electric vehicle batteries because they generate heat during operation, especially during fast charging or when subjected to high energy demands. Excess heat can negatively affect battery performance, safety and life. An effective thermal management system can help increase the energy efficiency of the vehicle and extend battery life. In addition, precise temperature control can improve the overall performance of the electric vehicle, enabling more extended range and faster charging.
